Flying Start is Luton’s pregnancy to five strategy which focuses on improving outcomes for babies and children.
Flying Start has secured grant funding for one year (until 31st March 2017) from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) for a pilot programme known as the Local Family Offer. This work is part of the governments Life Chances strategy, which is due for publication this summer. The strategy aims to tackle the root causes of disadvantage and deprivation and one of its policy priorities is to support family stability through work with the parental couple.
The Local Family Offer is a pilot programme which has been designed to support a small number of Local Authority areas (there are 12 pilot sites) to test the model of developing a couple’s relationship approach to its work as a means to support children’s outcomes.
As part of the Local Family Offer, Luton Borough Council has commissioned Relate Bedfordshire and Luton to deliver our evidence based brief relationship counselling aimed specifically at families who are either expecting a baby or who have children under the age of five and are experiencing difficulties in their relationship which may impact adversely on their children.
The service will be delivery in TOKKO Youth Space www.tokko.co.uk/ and sessions will start from Thursday 9th June.
